Class Description:
This preparation course is intended for students planning to take the AP CS Exam in the same year. Students should have previous experience at this level of study, such as KTBYTE's [CORE 6a] class, or a second-year high school course (usually called "AP Computer Science").
The curriculum is based directly on the exam topics, and focuses more on fast-paced review than brand new material. The time spent on each area is adjusted based on student needs. The course meets for 2 hours per week, and students will spend a significant amount of in-class time on practice problems. Homework assignments are given after each session, and students will also complete 3 take-home practice exams over the semester. A digital AP preparation textbook is provided to every student.
For returning KTBYTE students:
If you've taken KTBYTE classes up to [CORE 6a], you have seen all the major topics covered on the AP Exam briefly. To be fully prepared to actually take the test, students need significant additional practice, which may be done independently, or by taking this class after completing [CORE 6a].
This course does go over some minor topics not covered beforehand in our core curriculum, such as binary conversions or some vocabulary words. (Students who are self-studying for the exam instead should find these in any test prep book.) This class is also a great choice if you'd like more study on certain topics, or you'd just like some guided extra practice. It's especially helpful for students who haven't studied [CORE 5b] or [CORE 6a] material in awhile.
You may take this concurrently with [CORE 6a], but we recommend only doing so if you're sure you have more than 4 hours per week available for homework and practice!
