Australian Informatics Olympiad (AIO) Registration

- Who can participate in the competition?
While it is an Australian national contest, anyone affiliated with a school may participate, regardless of grade level or nationality. Schools like KTBYTE order and distribute contests to their participating students.
- When is the competition? What is the format?
The AIO is held yearly, and the next competition will be held at KTBYTE on August 23, 2023 at 7 pm ET (4 pm ET). Students have 3 hours to work on a total of 6 questions, but it's very common to only solve a few of them in that time. Students will be automatically placed either the Intermediate or Senior division based on grade level, but the level only affects awards for high performance - the problems themselves are the same.
- What level of difficulty is the competition targeted towards?
The contest is designed for students in high school with a wide range of computer science background. The first 2-3 problems are relatively beginner friendly for students with high school level introductory programming experience, while the hardest problems require advanced knowledge of algorithms..
- What are the benefits of the competition?
The competition fosters problem-solving skills and furthers students' interest in computer science. It can also be an impressive addition to a college application.
- Does the competition cost money?
Practicing for the competition is free and only requires registering for an online account. Participation in the 2023 competition has a small fee to cover the cost of ordering the contest, which you can pay while registering to take it
